Altered at UKGE

I went for the day to the UK Games Expo at the NEC in Birmingham in the UK this weekend. It was my first time going to this event and after turning up and getting my ticket, I hurried over to the Equinox stand as soon as I could, getting there around 9:15. I met Eric (Intox-CMO) and had a really good chat with him about Altered.

After the quick chat, we got on with the reason for my early visit. You see a few weeks before our resident hype teaser Loki had named a booster after me (Gavken) and Maverick opened it on stream. Loki had arranged for me to return the favour and he had given a booster (called Maverick) to Eric for me to open and get videoed at the UKGE.

I did my best to do the introduction in both French and English. I have an O level in French which I did 40 years ago now, so I’m very rusty and I hope that I didn’t embarrass myself at all with my terrible French accent. The KS boosters look fantastic and the picture of Shenlong on the cover and the golden colour really makes them look special. I was trying my best to be very careful not to show the QR codes on the video, but then I forgot to do the commons first to build up tension (doh!). So, we got the rare reveal first and I managed to open a lovely rare Ymzir Shroom. I got an Auraq foil as the hero and I’m just going to say now, the foiling looks absolutely fantastic.

It was the commons where we found some new stuff. Flamel has been unofficially spoiled, but I managed to pull a copy to confirm the card. ‘Aether Shard’ we had as an OOF rare, but now I have to common to confirm that this card in mainly in Ymzir. Finally, I managed to pull a completely new card, The Sandman, which I hope really pleases all the Lyra folk out there.

Later in the day I went back and had a really good chat to Marcus about game design principles and got a few hints about how they cost things. Marcus was so great to talk with. Whilst I was there three people came up to learn, so I said I'd help teach the odd person out. The three were some lovely French people who'd been following Altered a bit in their store. Marcus was called away to teach someone else, so after that I taught the game to another pair who wanted to learn. Whilst I was there everyone had such a great time and I really hope that over the course of the weekend they got a whole load of new converts to the wonders of the game.

I will have a special article on 11th June, which will will reveal something really special for the Bravosi!
